    Default 2010 Glass City Marathon

Something to get exited about. I listened to RD report for 2010 GCM at board meeting last night. Expect a bigger and better race to come. Changes made to increase participation and sponsorship. Look for change of course - this in my opinion is a good thing. It comes down to availability of police. Toledo TPD may not have sufficient numbers to hire for 2010. So it becomes a necessity to change.

Are you at liberty to tell us anything about the new course?

The proposal is to firm up a partnership with UT and work on a partnership with metroparks which will allow us to start and end at Glass Bowl running west to Secor Park and loop back through Sylvania Township and Wildwood.

None of this is finalized, but we're well on our way. It's likely there will be announcements of venue, course and other good news in upcoming weeks.

Me likey. I'm a fan of stadium finishes. Easier on the spectators, more post-race facilities and elbow room.

Folks... this race is doing a 360.
The origins of this long time Toledo area race followed a very similar course, I'm assuming.
Flat, fast, and hot, in the old days. Back then it was a mid June start.
April weather conditions on the old course would lead to some very fast results.
This economy demands less Tol. Police involvement, I presume.
sidenote: Tol. Police involvement in local road races are the biggest expense any local race will incur.

I know the old-time course had its start/finish on the UT track. Can anyone recall where it went from there? This TRRC page refers to the "Brookside course", and that the next course had its start/finish at Side Cut.

The first year the race began on Brookside, near Secor Rd. and headed to Bancroft. Not sure which year, but within a couple years the race began on the UT campus. I don't recall the exact route to Bancroft, but once on Bancroft the course was similar. It went west on Bancroft, through Secor Park (I think via Wolfinger Road) and continued out to Bancroft and beyond Secor Park to a 180 turn-around. Then it was back the same route to UT. It was held on Father's Day, so it was always warm. This was before much had been built or developed west of Reynolds Road, so it was mostly a lonely country road.

I am interested in the 2010 race. I tried to use the link to show the map of the course & it didn't work. I assume the website is still being worked on since there's still 8 months to the race. I would like any information about last year's race you want to share.

I assume you went to the http://glasscitymarathon.org/ site. There are a lot of changes for 2010 and the website will reflect those as they are solidified but we don't want to advertise anything until it is a for sure thing such as the 2010 course design. We will need to get that stuff done sooner then later so it is currently in development. Is there anything specific you are looking for?

I was mostly curious about the map. I found the 2009 map on www.mapmyrun.com. It looks like a fun race. I'll keep my eye on the site as we get closer.

Stadium finish... run through the parks... good old flat Toledo... The only thing more I can ask for is a perfect weather day. No wind please.
